On January 16 we had Madeline's first birthday party. Halmony came to visit and cook Korean for the big day. I made bannana cake and carrot cupcakes. We had many friends come that we have met here in Germany with their children. Madeline had a little help blowing out her birthday candle from her parents. In taking with Korean tradition Madeline had 3 things layed out in front of her string, money and a pencil, which ever one she picked up first means something different. The string means long life, the money means she'll be wealthy, and the pencil means she will be smart. Our daughter picked the 20 dollar bill! Madeline was dressed in her Korean birthday outfit, which her Halmony had given her all the way from Korea. She loved having so many people around, she ate her first cake with icing and true to fashion smeared it all over her face! She loves to read, walk around the coffee table holding on, say baba, which we are not sure what that means yet and waves bye bye to everyone even if you just arrived! She loves to grin from ear to ear and show off her 7 teeth. Thank you all for your birthday wishes we can't believe we have a 1 year old. She is such a joy and we look forward to another year of many new things as we watch her grow!

Happy Birthday Maddie! You're a one year old! I loved looking at the pictures. Madeline's Birthday outfit is beautiful. Is this something that will be passed on to the next child or just hers? Great traditions and memories. I'll call you soon so we can catch up.
Happy First Birthday , Maddie! I'm glad to see that you are carrying on the family traditions even with the new version of "Jerry Giraffe". Your cousin Debbie learned to walk behind Jerry Giraffe & your great Grandmother Wilson asked "What does a giraffe say?" when we were trying to get someone to talk. Do you know what a giraffe says???...nothing.
Love, Your Great Aunt Carolyn
Happy Birthday, Maddie! We wish we could have been there to share it with you. Scott especially wishes he could have shared your cake with you. Take care, and we can't wait to see you this summer.
Love,
Uncle Josh, Aunt Michelle, and Scott
Happy Birthday Maddie! I wish we were there to celebrate! You did such a great job with the photos...I feel like we were there! Can't wait to see you in May! Who knows what you'll be saying by then! Love, Kimberly
The Korean outfit can be passed on to another baby girl. There is a outfit for boys as well that Scott wore. We'll be doing that tradition for a boy as well even if Paul disaproves in a boy wearing shiny material!:) Thank you all for warm wishes.
Happy One Year Baby Maddie! I can't believe you are already one year old. Time flies for you and your parents. I'm glad you had family with you. I thought about you. I saved the text from your birth that says your weight and time. I looked at it and couldn't believe it's been a year. Avery is not far behind, she'll be one in March. Love the Korean outfit, absolutely beautiful!
